Patriots Prayer Service

UPHAM BEACH (map)

Selected By: Kristina G

There came a point during the Constitutional Convention when proceedings were beginning to break down. Heated arguments and tempers flared throughout the delegation. It was at this point when Benjamin Franklin rose and addressed the delegation with the following words:

"Mr. President,

.........In this situation of this Assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened, Sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate our understandings? In the beginning of the Contest with G. Britain, when we were sensible of danger we had daily prayer in this room for the divine protection. ”Our prayers, Sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a Superintending providence in our favor. To that kind providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity. And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth- that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that "except the Lord build the House they labour in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel......"

Fellow Patriots, it is my firm belief that we are at a "fork in the road." The fork on the left is the pathway in which we continue relying only on our own abilities to face down the enemies of freedom. The fork on the right invites God to share in our burden, but also invites Him to provide courage, strength and wisdom. I believe we are on the cusp of realizing tremendous victories, both in our struggle for freedom and in our personal lives.

At this time, as in the time of our Founding Fathers, it is time for Patriots to seek the favor of God and to thank Him for all of our blessings. We must ask Him for forgiveness, protection, and wisdom. As Benjamin Franklin wisely stated, "God governs in the affairs of men." If we seek victory as a result of our march towards freedom without asking God for favor, wisdom and guidance, we will not realize these victories.

Thank you to all the members of Pinellas Patriots and North Pinellas 9-12 who attended this very special service. This celebration of Faith, Hope and Charity connected us in a way that no protest or march ever could. As a special blessing, during the celebration, God reached out and touched the hearts of several beach visitors who joined us in communal prayer and thanksgiving. It was a tremendous evening. An evening I hope, is repeated again and again.

The Patriots Prayer service was very spiritual for me and my wife Becky. As we were leaving, beachgoers stopped and asked us what was that all about. We said we were with the Pinellas Patriots in a prayer vigil, appealing to our Creator to restore our nation and its bounty and beauty with His blessings. The beachgoers cheered and said "Great, keep it up." We responded, "We need your prayers to help."

This was such a great idea Kris, thanks for putting it together! It was great to meet so many new patriots too, and I really hope we can see them all again (and their friends!) at future events.

I walked away from this gathering with hope. Quite touching, it was, when passers by stopped and joined with us. Everything was perfect in so many ways. Thank you to Kris for everything. If I could, I would have given it 10 stars. What a gathering of Christian souls fighting for thier country and freedom. I never get tired of worshipping the Lord and maybe next time we can incorporate baptism. Just a thought

Simply put, this was a fantastic event! During the course of this evening, a total of 10 people that were strolling the beach joined in. Talk about outreach and a common denominator. This was planned with care and many thanks to Kris for her dedication, love of country and God. She is truly an inspiration.
